Associate Director
As an Associate Director you will help to shape the transport planning team and business strategy and will deliver complex multi-sector projects. You will lead Project Teams and support the Project Director on large projects. You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of projects and their administration, preparation of fee quotes and bids, calling on your technical knowhow and experience. Your role will include leading project teams with more junior staff, to review technical work and support the delivery of consistent, high-quality work that may be complex in nature. You will be actively engaged with client teams and in consultation with local authorities and stakeholders as projects require and be able to work independently where needed. You will be actively engaged in the wider development industry promoting the company and winning work.
Key Responsibilities
Work alongside Project Directors to project manage large projects.
Act as Project Director for medium-sized projects.
Supervise junior members of the team to learn and deliver projects collaboratively.
Help develop multi-modal access strategies and designs for all kinds of developments and public sector transport projects.
Develop initial concept / feasibility studies for large masterplan sites
Undertake technical assessments and analysis across a wide range of transport related subjects.
Prepare technical notes and reports, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Delivery and Service Plans and other assessments leading to planning applications, post application queries and discharge of planning conditions as well as reviewing those reports prepared by other team members.
Play an active role in the transport related aspects of building and development design.
Attend, and lead when required, meetings with clients, architects and planning authorities.
Represent the Company and Clients at public consultation events, public meetings, planning committee meetings and appeal hearings.
Support and promote business development initiatives including attending out of hours events.
Ensure excellence in project delivery, quality, and client satisfaction.
Requirements
Significant experience in a transport planning experience in development planning at a transport planning consultancy.
Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related field.
Ability to generate a client base and support the growth of transport planning team.
In depth knowledge of the planning system and transport-related matters, including Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, and Environmental Statements.
A practical knowledge of relevant cycling/walking design standards, highway standards and building design guidelines.
Excellent understanding of pedestrian and highway capacity modelling (including microsimulation), and interpretation and presentation of outputs.
Experience of preparing robust, visually engaging supporting material using a range of graphics software.
Experience of team management responsibilities including line management and day-to-day operations.
Experience of being involved in the financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering both large and small projects
Proficiency in MS Office.
Strong writing, numeracy and presentation skills.
Excellent accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to work within deadlines.
Interpersonal skills required to liaise effectively and professionally with the project team, stakeholders and contractors.
A sound knowledge of the financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering both large and small projects.
Track record in business development and team leadership.
Strong understanding of transport policy, infrastructure funding, and planning process.
Desirable
Postgraduate degree in a relevant field and at least nearing Chartership or have equivalent commercial experience and responsibility.
Working towards or recently achieved professional membership (CIHT, TPS, ICE).
