Transport Planner

As a Transport Planner, you’ll play a key role in our project teams delivering high-quality transport projects across development planning, active travel, and transport strategy. You will support project teams, engaging in the tasks required for the running of projects. Your role will also include supporting more junior members of our team through knowledge sharing. Collaborating closely the colleagues, you will gain hands-on experience across all stages of the project lifecycle while building a solid foundation in technical and professional skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support junior members of the team to help them learn and deliver projects collaboratively.

  • Help to develop multi-modal access strategies and designs for all kinds of developments.

  • Contribute to initial concept / feasibility studies for large masterplan sites.

  • Assist in technical assessments and analysis across a wide range of transport related subjects.

  • Contribute to the delivery of technical notes and reports, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Delivery and Service Plans and other assessments leading to planning applications, post application queries and discharge of planning conditions.

  • Prepare plans and diagrams to support planning submissions.

  • Collect, analyse and interpret transport and traffic data.

  • Undertake junction modelling using relevant software.

  • Contribute to the design of transport schemes and layouts.

  • Conduct site visits and surveys as required.

  • Attend meetings with wider project teams and planning authorities when required.

  • Support business development initiatives including attending out of hours events when required.

  • Represent the Company and Clients at public consultation events.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years’ experience in development planning at a transport planning consultancy.

  • Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related field.

  • General understanding of the planning system and transport-related matters, including Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, and Environmental Statements.

  • Knowledge of relevant cycling/walking design standards, highway standards and building design guidelines.

  • Understanding of pedestrian and highway capacity modelling, including experience in the use of PICADY, ARCADY and LinSig.

  • Proficiency in MS Office.

  • Strong analytical and numeracy skills.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills with the ability to work within deadlines.

  • Interpersonal skills required to liaise effectively and professionally with the project team, stakeholders and contractors.

Desirable

  • Working towards professional accreditation (CIHT, TPS, ICE).

  • Understanding of tools to design elements of the built environment, preferably AutoCAD and other associated Autodesk design software (e.g. AutoTrack).

  • Membership of CIHT, TPS, or ICE.

  • Competent user of QGIS.
